The yellow flowers and orange of the calendula were employed in the old Egypt. At present is recognized as one of the best plants to treat skin conditions. Used externally helps in cases such as burns, cuts, infections and insect bites because of its anti-inflammatory properties and antiseptic. Their anti-inflammatory properties apparently are due to the presence of substances known as flavonoides. The flower of the calendula also has the ability to stimulate cells of our immune system known as macrophages thereby facilitating the destruction of bacteria.
