Fleas not only live off their pets, but also bite people and the typical human reaction to a flea bite is the formation of a small grain, hard, red, slightly raised, itching at the site without inflammation.

A single point caused by the flea bite is usually evident in the centre of each spot and flea bites usually occur in the legs and ankles, the reactions are different for everyone because some people are unattractive to fleas and are not affected by them, while others can be very attractive and sensitive to fleas, resulting in a severe allergic reaction to their bites.

How to treat flea bites on humans:

1. First, it is important to keep the affected area clean. Wash the bite with some antiseptic lotion or soap. Use cold water, avoiding the use of warm or hot water as this may tend to stimulate itch

2. Second, apply a cold compress on the bite to reduce swelling.

3. Do not scratch the inflamed area, which can lead to open wounds and secondary infections.

4. If the affected area swells, you can apply a mild steroid cream such as Cream 1% hydrocortisone. This should be readily available at any pharmacy without a prescription.

5. Very often, the itching caused by flea bites can be very intense, so oatmeal is soothing to use, just make an infusion with rolled oats or flour, to place as a poultice.
